Why we don't use Coconut Oil in our Beard Products

Now, before you get upset and start sending us angry emails on behalf of the coconut oil advocation group, realize that we are writing this to give you a glimpse behind the curtain on how we format our products. 

We have all had that person in our life that says "I use coconut oil for everything".

Ah yes, the jack of all trades and master of none in the natural cosmetic world. If you dive a little deeper into how coconut oil actually performs, you will realize why we don't use it in any of our beard products.

• Clogged Pores
  • Oils are given a rating on how likely they are  to clog your pores a.k.a the comedogenic index. Coconut oil is a solid 4 out of 5 (zero being the least likely to clog), meaning that if you are acne prone or not fond of the blemish battle, stay away.
• Low Absorption Rate
  • You want your beard oils to absorb into your skin and beard rather quickly and get to work for you, not loitering around on the surface ready to transfer onto whatever you brush up against next. Coconut oil is classified as a low absorption rate oil, which means using it may leave your beard feeling heavy and greasy.
• High Shine
  • Some guys like a high shine in their beards, but we have found that the majority of our customers do not. I would say that the natural shine from a healthy hydrated beard is that perfect sweet spot. Coconut oil will often lead to excessive shine in a beard product because of the low absorption rate.
• It Simply Underperforms
  • There are so many other oils that do a better job of hydrating and conditioning, that there is just very little reasons to include coconut oil when formulating a beard product.

Many things contribute to a good beard formula, but I would argue that one of the quickest way to make your formula "heavy" or "greasy" is with the addition of coconut oil. We recommend doing your due diligence and make your own decisions when purchasing your own beard products that works best for you. 

Don't get us wrong, we will coconut oil for other things. Just not our Beard Products!
