A new brand, a new vision, and a new identity for the City of Edmonton and all those who help make this City as vibrant as possible. The branding statement was part of a report presented to Mayor Don Iveson and the rest of City Council in July. It aims to show that Edmontonians are inventive, open, courageous and cooperative.

When we first heard about this branding slogan, we could immediately relate. We are so proud to be part of a welcoming community that encourages small business owners to dream big.

What started out as a simple idea has morphed into a movement – where every man is afforded the proper tools and techniques to groom their facial hair and have a shaving or beard experience that will transport them back to their earliest memories with their Dad, Grandpa, Older Brother or Uncle.

We’ve ticked off all the boxes when it comes to being inventive, open, and courageous but it’s YOU – our valued customer – who finish it off with cooperation. We continue to earn your trust and provide you with locally produced; all-natural products that will leave you feeling refreshed each and every day. Together, we help put Edmonton on the map as a city that truly does support local businesses.

We understand that some people may not be able to make it to the Farmer’s Market, so we want to make it as easy as possible for you to find us and satisfy your shaving needs.

Our products can be found at a number of Alberta based businesses and on our website. But starting this weekend, you can find Like Grandpa at several Christmas and Craft markets across the Province.

The best morning routine

Ugh... just a few more minutes. Sound familiar?

How about you add in your heart pounding or that startled feeling that overpowers you. Yep, we’ve all been there… a great night sleep ruined by the piercing sound of that morning alarm.

The problem is hitting that snooze button… once… twice… even three times. Suddenly, you’re late for work and are scrambling to get out of the house. No one likes that feeling but what if we shared some tips on creating a morning routine that will keep you feeling fresh and more importantly, looking good. The best part is, it’s easy to remember and you’ll have fun doing it.

We want to make your grooming experience the best it can possibly be. We’re all about tradition, quality, natural, locally made products and of course – there’s no B-S. We’re here to make your life easier. 

SHAVING

For those of you who like that nice smooth face, this is your morning routine.

• Hot Shower: It’s a great way to wake up. It’ll help loosen your muscles – and open up those pores in your skin.
• Pre-Shave: Use your favourite Like Grandpa Pre-Shave Oil (Cedar, Eucalyptus, Lime). All you have to do is put a small amount in the palm of your hand, and gently massage it into your face. It’ll help give you a smooth, irritation free shave.
• Cream or Soap: Most people use shaving cream and others use soap. No matter your preference, lather up and get that face ready for an awesome shave.
• Shave: You know the drill, pull out your safety razor or straight razor and get your face looking exactly the way you want it.
• Aftershave Balm: You’re almost done. Once you’re done with the shave, it’s time to reward yourself with your favourite Like Grandpa Aftershave Balm (Sandalwood, Tea Tree). This provides you with a smooth, moisturized face that will leave you feeling nice and fresh all day long. See? That wasn’t so hard at all!

Our daily routines and increased work schedules have robbed us of that feeling – so it’s time to take back what’s ours… a few minutes every morning where we put ourselves first with a well-deserved pampering.

GROOMING

Rocking a sweet moustache or epic beard? Add a couple of steps to your morning routine.

• Hot Shower: Make sure you give your beard or moustache a good wash in the shower.
• Towel Dry: Sounds simple but too often guys will forget to dry off their facial hair. That’s key to keeping it looking great and feeling fresh.
• Oil or Balm: We have quite a few options when it comes to Beard Oil, Beard Balms and Moustache Wax. They all do the same: tame and soften those whiskers, and most importantly, takes care of the skin under your facial hair.
• Comb / Style: Of course, don’t forget to comb or style your facial hair just the way you like it.

Back to school with Like Grandpa

Summer vacation is over.

Yep, we hate to be the bearer of bad news but days of lounging around, heading to the lake or National Park, exploring Alberta and not even thinking about cracking open a textbook are over. Then again – maybe the fun is just about to begin. The kids are heading back to school which means it’s all about you!

Whether you’re a parent, an uncle, a university or grad student, it’s time to freshen up, dress to impress and check off that back to school list with some help from your friends at Like Grandpa.

Quite frankly, the start of a new school year meant a new beginning… a new chapter in our lives. We’re in the same boat, as we launch a new blog to showcase our company, our locally produced and all-natural products and of course, sharing our passion for shaving, grooming and facial hair care with all our current and future customers.

So let’s get excited about the fall and back to school season. Whether it’s on TV, radio or online, we’ve seen and heard all the back to school commercials. It doesn’t matter if you’re still in class or you haven’t been inside one for years: it’s time to get excited about YOUR new beginning.
