The Best Beard

The best beards out there

It’s official - Prince Harry has the world’s sexiest beard.

A survey conducted by the Crown Clinic in Manchester and reported in the Daily Mail, found that the vast majority have fallen in love with Harry’s new look. Following close behind are Canadian Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper.

Now whether you agree with the survey or not, the fact is – it’s obvious the man who will soon be the 6
th in line to become King of England - goes to great lengths to take care of that immaculate beard. The good news is that you don’t have to be a member of the Royal Family or some hot shot celebrity to have a similar look.

In previous blog posts, we talked about your Morning Routine and even helped you decide which product suits you best when it comes to Beard Oil or Beard Balm. Today, we’ll talk about keeping that beard nice and clean – helping you look and feel like a King.

It’s important to keep things clean and fresh and Like Grandpa wants to help you out with our new Beard & Shampoo Bar.

The all-natural bar is soft, which makes it easy to lather and provides a gentle clean. The beauty of this bar is that it not only works for your facial hair but also the hair on your head. Most importantly, using a beard/shampoo bar will leave you feeling clean and fresh – without stripping away the natural oil.

Using the bar is simple – all you have to do is wet it and work it between your hands to build up that lather. Work that into your wet beard / hair and rinse thoroughly. Don’t forget to use conditioner!

One other tip: Store the bar out of direct water stream for longer life. In other words, put it in a far corner in your shower or take it out when you’re done.

Follow these tips and who knows – maybe you’ll be ready to dethrone Prince Harry with the world’s sexiest beard.

Countdown to Movember

Countdown to Movember

Okay… unless you’re some ridiculously awesome, moustache growing superhero, chances are you likely won’t be able to sport a full blown moustache with your Grandpa used too.

But, here at Like Grandpa, we want to help you grow and groom the best possible moustache for Movember.

To get started, you will need a proper safety razor or straight razor to give you that nice clean look before you start the Movember challenge. For useful shaving tips, check out one of our previous blog posts.

Unlike that episode of the Simpsons where Homer’s 5 o’clock shadow grew back instantly, you’re going to need some patience before you start seeing some results.

In all seriousness, just give yourself some time and let that moustache grow in naturally.

To get you through the rest of the month, you’re going to need some moustache wax (check out our Orange or Pine wax), and a fine tooth moustache comb.

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE ITCH?!?!

Ok, we hear ya! We know how itchy facial hair can be when you’re not used to growing it. We’ve all be there, even Mayor Don Iveson!

The solution to fix the itch is our beard oil (Sandalwood or Cedar). Both oils can be used for a moustache as it helps soothe the skin under your stache. It also softens your whiskers – providing you with a smooth touchable moustache.

These are your must-have in order to get through Movember the right way – rocking an epic new look while raising money for a great cause. (The Movember Foundation is a charitable organization that raises money for Men’s Health awareness including prostate and testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention).

Oh and one more thing… rock your Movember look with your very own Like Grandpa T-Shirt.

Next month, we’ll give you some solid tips on how to put all your new tools to good use and leave you flashing a million dollar smile underneath that great looking moustache.

PS – watch for Like Grandpa on Global Edmonton Weekend Morning News. We’ll be providing some Movember tips, so stay tuned for more details about Like Grandpa and Global Edmonton.

Thank you

Thank You.

As we head into the Thanksgiving Long Weekend, we wanted to take a step back from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season to reflect and give thanks, and it all starts with you.

Thank YOU.

Without our dedicated and passionate customers, Like Grandpa would be nothing more than a dream. Each and every one of you help inspire us to do more, be better and continue to earn your trust. We’re not exaggerating when we say the highlight of our week is spending time with our customers and meeting people from all walks of life at the Old Strathcona Farmer’s Market. We love your smiles, hearing your stories, answering your questions and your passion for grooming and shaving. Our dream has become reality and it’s thanks to you.

Thank you to all of the local businesses that have opened their doors to us. Our all-natural products can be found at Kent of Inglewood, Barber Ha, Plum Home Design, and Tix on the Square in Edmonton. Just a few minutes out of town, you can find us at Urban Whyte in Devon. Then there are our friends in southern Alberta. Outside the Shape in Calgary and The Tamarack in Waterton National Park have graciously welcomed us into their business, recognizing the local is more than just Edmonton… we’re Alberta made and proud of where we come from.

It’s hard to put into words just how thankful we are to ATB and its Alberta BoostR program. If you aren’t familiar with it, it’s a crowdfunding platform that helps boost entrepreneurs and small businesses in our province. Simply put, it provides business owners with invaluable exposure and expert advice. ATB and its BoostR program empowers Albertans to chase after their hopes and dreams. It challenges us to think big and come up with fresh ideas. We are so grateful for ATB’s support – not only for us but for all local businesses in our province.
Thanks to Alberta BoostR, we were able to connect with Rocky Mountain Soap. They’re a perfect example of what can happen when you put your heart and soul into a concept… an idea… a movement. Much like us, they believe in locally produced, all-natural products. They have grown from a small company in Canmore to one that offers its products across the country and around the world online. Over the next year, we’re able to pick their brains and lean on them for advice. They’ve walked a mile… scratch that… they’ve walked many miles in our shoes, so their input is significant in helping us reach our next goals with our company.

And thank you to our family and friends – too many to name individually. You have embraced our vision and your unconditional love and support continues to push us to unimaginable heights.

From the bottom of our hearts, we wish you all a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.

Beard Oil vs Beard Balm

Beard Oil vs Beard Balm

Here at Like Grandpa, it’s no secret we’re passionate about beards, moustaches and shaving in general. We want to pass our love and passion onto you – which is why we love getting feedback from our customers and answering many of your questions.

So let’s get right to it…

I MOUSTACHE YOU A QUESTION…
“What is the difference between beard oil and beard balm?” – Kell Baker

Thanks Kell! We meet a ton of people at the Old Strathcona Farmers Market and this is one of the most common questions asked.

No one likes an itchy, scratchy, course or dry flaky beard. Both our Beard Oil and Beard Balm will definitely help take care of that. It conditions, softens and moisturizes the beard and skin to keep you feeling nice and refreshed.

So what’s the difference?

The balm has a touch of wax in it for a bit of shaping and hold. So as your beard gets longer and starts to puff out and go crazy – it will help keep it under control.

Typically, guys will transition from the Beard Oil to a Beard Balm as their beards start to get longer.

We hope that helps answer your question. If the Beard Oil or Beard Balm are right for you – or if you’d like to check out some of our other great, locally produced and all-natural products, check us out online at Like Grandpa (there’s also a list of what stores our products are available) or visit us in person at the Old Strathcona Farmers Market every Saturday from 8am – 3pm.

“If you have the courage to take an idea to reality, to build, to make something, Edmonton is your city.”

A new brand, a new vision, and a new identity for the City of Edmonton and all those who help make this City as vibrant as possible. The branding statement was part of a report presented to Mayor Don Iveson and the rest of City Council in July. It aims to show that Edmontonians are inventive, open, courageous and cooperative.

When we first heard about this branding slogan, we could immediately relate. We are so proud to be part of a welcoming community that encourages small business owners to dream big.

What started out as a simple idea has morphed into a movement – where every man is afforded the proper tools and techniques to groom their facial hair and have a shaving or beard experience that will transport them back to their earliest memories with their Dad, Grandpa, Older Brother or Uncle.

We’ve ticked off all the boxes when it comes to being inventive, open, and courageous but it’s YOU – our valued customer – who finish it off with cooperation. We continue to earn your trust and provide you with locally produced; all-natural products that will leave you feeling refreshed each and every day. Together, we help put Edmonton on the map as a city that truly does support local businesses.

We understand that some people may not be able to make it to the Farmer’s Market, so we want to make it as easy as possible for you to find us and satisfy your shaving needs.

Our products can be found at a number of Alberta based businesses and on our website. But starting this weekend, you can find Like Grandpa at several Christmas and Craft markets across the Province.
